Maitland A&H Blog Entry 1

The Art and History Museums in Maitland are an excellent opportunity for Floridians as well as tourists to get an exciting aspect of the creative side of Central Florida. Attendees will get a chance to visit a museum that displays famous works of artists who had the opportunity to get involved with the Art Center, explore the historical importance of Maitland and its role in Central Florida, and attend the Phone Museum and learn the evolution of phones. Each section provides an opportunity for attendees to develop new perspectives provided by museums. However, what is not mentioned in the educational opportunities that A&H is providing for the local university students. Students such as I can connect and work with the museum and learn valuable skills that are only taught by internships. With the provided opportunity, I can work with the museum and help develop the museums. While working at will be to work with a fellow partner student to scan documents and photos for the museums. This opportunity is great as I will have the ability to learn the necessary skills that may be necessary for a potential career. Before, I have had a chance to scan historical documents back, but not on the scale or focuses that I have while working with A&H.

Having the opportunity to scan these documents and photos is a valuable asset. It provides digital security that if these documents or pictures were lost, stolen, or damaged, a scanned copy would allow the museums to show off the work. Opportunities to share the information digitally are great to get not only scholars but also others interested in the museums. Scanned documents are an excellent occasion for researchers to view the item without having to go to the museums. Scholars who have the documents online are able, with the help of the museum, to produce historical work that can provide better context for the museums and research. Historians can also use the documents for digital history projects if the documents are digitalized. In the digital age, connecting to the public with a digital project is an excellent opportunity to get them interested in history and teach them as well.

People who may not claim to be historians are able to connect with the museum by being able to see such documents and become interested in attending the museum. Having the public interested in the museum by being able to put the photos and documents online is an excellent attraction method. If people are interested in the scanned copy, they may be more willing to attend the museum. If the museums have higher popularity with the public, thus grants them as a  more credited institution and could help them expand.

A primary focus for public historians is to be a spread historical information. If my job is to scan documents so the public or the scholars can see them digitally, then I have the devotion and dedication to work for the Art and History Museums.
